Dear friends,
This website informs you about my activities as a former Member of the European Parliament (MEP), where I sat on the Committee of the Economic and Monetary Affairs and on the Budget Committee. At the same time, you can find articles and studies published by me on topics mainly related to economics and finance.
During the elections for the European Parliament in Romania (November 2007) a recurrent question was how much EU funds would MEPs bring home through their activity. I found it to be an expected question in a country that bets tremendously on these funds for its overall modernization. And it is true that MEPs can make a contribution to this end by what they do in various committees that shape EU policy in the fields of regional policy, the structure of the Union's budget, etc.
But an MEP can and should do more for his national citizens and the citizens of the EU in general. In this regard I am thinking of what he or she does in the work of the European Parliament committees, during public hearings and seminars, by speeches, and, sometimes, articles and studies on issues of major concern for EU citizens. Through all these an MEP can bring added value to the debates and polices in the making in domains such as economic and monetary affairs, energy, climate change, transportation, social affairs, international trade, etc.
Certainly, there is inevitable specialization among MEPs and my professional background and experience explain why I sat on the two committees mentioned above. However, I did not refrain from speaking up whenever I felt I had something sensible to say.
I hope you will find the information on this website useful.
